President John Dramani Mahama has reassured Ghanaians that his government is fully committed to resolving the ongoing energy crisis to prevent a return to the period of constant blackouts (dumsor).
Speaking at the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana in Winneba on Thursday, January 9, Mahama acknowledged the serious challenges the country faces in the energy sector and vowed to take swift and decisive action.
“We are assuming office at a critical time in our nation’s history. Ghana is faced with significant challenges. But that is exactly the reason why you elected us,” Mahama stated.
He emphasised that his government was aware of the difficulties in the energy sector, particularly the risk of power outages due to insufficient fuel supplies for power generation.
However, he urged Ghanaians to remain hopeful and confident that his administration would find lasting solutions to these issues.
“We will transparently let you understand what those challenges are, and we will take responsibility for solving them,” Mahama assured the public, adding that the energy crisis will be tackled with urgency and determination.
“There is a threat of power outages, but my brothers and sisters, don’t despair. You elected us to solve the problems, not to put the blame on anybody else,” he said.
President Mahama further revealed that on January 8, 2025, he held a crucial stakeholders’ meeting with key players in the energy sector to discuss and implement innovative solutions to stabilise the power supply.
“I can assure you of some of the ideas they have come up with. We will make sure that your lights stay on and that we do not have dumsor,” he stated confidently.
The president reiterated that tackling the energy sector’s challenges requires a collective and coordinated effort and expressed his government’s readiness to lead the charge.
Mahama’s statement is a clear indication that his administration is determined to address the energy crisis and bring long-term stability to Ghana’s power supply, ensuring that Ghanaians no longer have to face the unpredictable blackouts of the past.
