The nominee for Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has stated that under his leadership, any ambassadors or diplomats who fail to perform their duties effectively will be dismissed.

Speaking before the Appointments Committee during his vetting on Friday, 31st January, Mr Ablakwa emphasized that a clear set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) will be established to assess the performance of Ghana’s ambassadors stationed in various countries.

Mr. Ablakwa highlighted the significant financial investment the country makes in its diplomatic services, noting that nearly GH¢1 billion is spent annually on the salaries, benefits, and operational costs associated with ambassadors and diplomats.

Given this considerable expenditure, he argued, it is critical that their work delivers tangible benefits to Ghana.

If their efforts are not yielding positive results for the nation, there is no justification for retaining them in their positions.

The nominee further urged Ghana’s diplomats to prioritize outcomes that directly benefit the country, particularly through initiatives that can attract investment from their host nations.

These investments, he believes, could play a crucial role in bolstering Ghana’s economic growth and strengthening its global standing.

Mr. Ablakwa’s focus will be on ensuring that the country’s diplomatic missions are aligned with national interests, helping to improve the economic well-being of Ghanaians and enhancing the nation’s development.
