Wear your masks or be denied social services -Greater Accra REGSEC warns
As part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the Greater Accra Region, the security council (REGSEC) has announced the mandatory wearing of nose and face masks in public.
A statement issued and signed by the Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey, said the move was to ensure the strict compliance with President Akufo-Addo’s directive on social distancing and wearing of face masks.
Other measures include education and sentisation on wearing of face masks, social and physical distancing by the various MMDAs in their respective jurisdictions.
The Greater Accra REGSEC also banned all “special market days” but added that satellite markets would be created by MMDAs to decongest main markets in the Greater Accra region.
Also, commercial drivers are to ensure that passengers wear face masks before being allowed to board their vehicles.
According to the statement signed by Mr. Ashitey, “notices of ‘NO FACE MASK, NO ENTRY’ should be visibly displayed at vantage points including offices, lorry stations, shops, markets, malls, banks, pharmacies, among others”.
The Greater Accra Region has the highest number of coronavirus cases. So far, 1,154 people have been infected with coronavirus in Ghana with nine deaths. Some 120 persons have also recovered according to the Ghana Health Service.
Other regions to have recorded the virus include the Eastern, Central, Ashanti, Eastern, Northern, Volta, Upper East, Upper West, Western, and North East regions.
