We won’t tolerate armed attacks — NAIMOS to galamsey operators

The fight against illegal mining in Ghana has taken another turn, as the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has issued a stern warning to galamsey operators engaging in violent resistance.

According to NAIMOS, any attempt by illegal miners to launch armed attacks against its task force will not be tolerated, stressing that operatives are prepared to respond decisively to protect themselves.

Speaking on the matter, a senior official of the Secretariat made it clear that the safety of personnel remains a top priority, and any individual who chooses violence will face serious consequences.

“We will not tolerate armed attacks. Our men will defend themselves when necessary,” the official cautioned.

The warning comes amid rising tensions in several mining communities, where task force operations have reportedly been met with resistance, including the use of weapons by some illegal miners.

Authorities say these confrontations are making the anti-galamsey campaign increasingly dangerous, but insist the crackdown will continue without compromise.

NAIMOS has, in recent months, intensified operations across the country, leading to multiple arrests and the seizure and destruction of mining equipment used in illegal activities.

Despite the growing risks, officials maintain that the fight against galamsey is critical to protecting Ghana’s environment, especially its water bodies and farmlands, which continue to suffer severe damage.
