Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) announces plans to publish a list of its debtors by May 2024, as customers owe GH¢1.2 billion in arrears.

GWCL said several efforts to recover the debt over the years have proven futile.

According to the company, the debt is straining operations, impeding regular maintenance exercises.

This could cause a water shortage, according to the Public Relations Manager of Ghana Water Company, Stanley Martey.

Management has, therefore, resolved to publish the names of defaulting individuals, companies, and organizations and their amounts owed if they fail to fulfill their financial obligations.

“We need to take more harsher steps. We are giving customers who are indebted to us up to the middle of May to settle their bills. If they fail to do that, then we will name and shame.

“Customers are being notified that the company will use all legal means possible to retrieve all arrears,” the company said.

Meanwhile, customers are advised to pay their debts at the company’s offices, revenue collection points, through the GWCL customer app, or mobile money platforms.
