We will not sacrifice power on the altar of peace – NPP National Youth Organizer
The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has stated that the party will not give up power for the sake of peace.
Speaking at a mini rally in Takoradi on Saturday, August 17, he said although the party valued the peace of the nation, they will not be forced into submission.
He also boasted of his strength and that of other party members who could face the NDC squarely in the 2024 elections.
“I’m also telling them that the NPP will not sacrifice power on the altar of peace, we will not do it. We will not submit, we will not be cowed, prevented, or pushed.
“Look at my muscles, these muscles are natural, my muscles are full of bones. If the NDC believe they are stronger than us, they should dare in this election and they will see that we have the men.
“We’re for peace, we like peace, we’re for the progress of the country. But we will not be pushed out by any form of tactics,” the National Youth Organizer said.
According to the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, such agreements have not been effective in maintaining peace across the country.
“Signing a peace declaration doesn’t mean anything to the party, as previous pacts have not yielded any real results,” Asiedu Nketia stated.
He said rather than relying solely on symbolic gestures, proactive efforts are needed to avert violence.
“If you allow violence to brew, it will happen whether you sign a declaration or not. That’s why, more than a year ago, I started talking about the need to remove the building blocks for a violent election,” he explained.
