‘We thought it was fake news’ – NDC- China grieves Rawlings’ death
The death of former President Jerry John Rawlings came as a shock to many and to the NDC- China branch it was just another fake news.
In a statement commiserating with the family and loved ones of the late statesman, the group said: “…we treated it as fake news until we saw a formal communique from his office confirming his untimely departure”.
Cataloguing the contributions of the late president to Ghana’s democracy, the group said “H.E President Jerry John Rawlings was the people’s man who went into the gutters and woods with the underprivileged to rebuild Ghana. His charisma, vision, passion for wealth-distribution, socialist ideologies, and principles of probity and accountability cannot be overemphasized”.
“Indeed, Ghana has lost a great nation builder and selfless democrat, who always intervenes with a good sense of humour when political tensions are high” the statement read.
He was 73.
His last public appearance was at the Forecourt of the State House and Dzelukope during the funeral of his late mother on October 24.
