The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has refuted claims that the government owes seedling providers for the Green Ghana project to the tune of GH¢2.5 billion.

The Ashanti Region Seedling Contractors Association had demanded GH¢2.5 billion from the government.

According to the group, the amount was for the supply of seedlings for the tree planting exercise during the Green Ghana Day celebrations for 2021 and 2022.

They said despite the many assurances from the government to pay them, they are currently frustrated as they are constantly being harassed by banks that provided loans to procure the seedlings.

The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Benito Owusu Bio, says the government is making frantic efforts to pay them.

However, speaking during a visit to some sites of the Green Ghana Project, he said the government owes the suppliers only GH¢28 million.

“Please we don’t owe anyone GH¢2.5 billion. Yes, the government owes for 2021 to 2022. In all, it is just 28 million Ghana cedis so where from the 2.5 billion? Let’s report the fact as it is,” Mr. Bio clarified.
