We need detailed report of AFCON budget – Nyaho-Tamakloe

Former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has described the $4.5 million spent on the just ended Africa Cup of Nations tournament by the Ghana contingent as a complete waste of resources.

Speaking to The Ghana Report, the former GFA boss indicated that it was wrong for the Sports Minister to present a budget to the people’s representative, parliament, after the ministry had already expended the nation’s resources on the said tournament.

He argues also that the budget presented by the Minister lacks the necessary details to allow for proper scrutiny.

The Sports Minister, he says, failed to give the country a detailed report of expenditure on how much was spent on the players, supporters, journalists, parliamentarians among others, he added.

Nyaho-Tamakloe insists that supporters, journalists and parliamentarians must take full responsibility for their own ticket and not be placed on the nation’s expense list.

“Why should government be made to take full responsibility of people who genuinely want to go and watch the game?” he asked rather worryingly.

He made reference to the fact that Confederation of African Football (CAF) as a body allocates a huge amount to the Coach and technical team, leading him to wonder why an additional $4.5 million was apportioned to expenses for the Coach and the technical team by the Ghana government.
