The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has reiterated the party’s stance that the voter register must undergo a forensic audit.

According to Mr Gyamfi, the Electoral Commission must collaborate with the political parties to conduct the audit.

“We insist that the voters’ register must undergo a forensic audit. Party reps and EC must sit together and audit the register,” he said.

The EC had rejected a request from the NDC for an independent forensic audit of the provisional voter register following the identification of some discrepancies.

The party argued that a forensic audit would restore confidence in the electoral process.

Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections for the NDC, has earlier stated that development partners, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), are willing to support the audit process.

“The UNDP is ready and willing to provide the support only if the Electoral Commission will write and request the support,” Dr. Boamah noted.

Despite this, the EC remains firm in its decision not to proceed with the audit, prompting the party to declare a nationwide demonstration.

Meanwhile, the EC has accused the NDC of misinforming its members about the discrepancies in the provisional voter register.

Speaking on Saturday, September 14, Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr Bossman Asare, said the NDC have blown non-existent errors in the register out of proportion.

Dr Asare reiterated that all the issues the NDC raised about the register have been addressed by the EC.

He expressed the commission’s commitment to resolve any lingering issues with the NDC so that all parties can go into the December 7 polls with confidence in the voter register.
