‘We have not benefited from disability grant’-Bono Region disability group

The Bono  Regional Chapter of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations has raised concerns over how the GHc 4 million from the government’s, Entrepeneurial Support for Persons with Disability has been disbursed.

On  May 1 and July 24,  the government presented two cheques amounting to GHc 4 million under the Presidential Entrepreneurial Support for Persons with Disability.

However, members of the Bono  Regional chapter of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations say they are yet to benefit from the support.

Speaking on Asaase FM, the Bono Regional Vice-President of the federation, Miss Serena Mahamudu, asserted that none of their members in the region had so far benefited from the package.

“In Bono region, we are about 24,000 persons living with a disability that is only those who have registered. We have still got our brothers and sisters who are also disabled but haven’t registered”, she stated.

She explained that the government had a lot of work to do considering the fact that only 2000 disabled persons benefitted from the fund.

With persons with disability discriminated against when it comes to employment, she said there were thousands of disabled people who were unable to work.

She also revealed that guidelines to the Ministry of Local Governments to allocate one seat to persons with disability at the various district assemblies was yet to be honoured.
