The Office of the Special Prosecutor has maintained that it can arrest individuals suspected of corruption without a warrant.
In a tweet, the OSP said, “The general public is advised that in exercising its police powers, the Office of the Special Prosecutor can arrest, without a warrant, any person it reasonably suspects of having committed corruption or corruption-related offenses”.
The statement comes shortly after the Accra High Court granted an interim injunction restraining the office from arresting Charles Bissue, a former Secretary of the defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).
Additionally, the OSP was prohibited from applying for any further arrest warrant until the determination of the substantive matter.
The court also barred him from publishing any notices declaring Charles Bissue wanted until the substantive matter is resolved.
The injunction remains in effect for 10 days.
