The Forestry Commission has waded into the allegation that the New Patriotic Party is training thugs to cause mayhem in the 2020 general election.
According to the aide to the Chief Executive Director of the Commission, Charles Owusu, the commission in its wake to conserve the forest has decided to train its guards to equip them in fighting intruders.
“A lot of the time, we get complains of people and animals attacking guards, that is why the commission has decided to train them. They are not thugs to cause mayhem in the upcoming election as alleged by the opposition NDC,” he said.
According to him, the current trainees are the second batch of forestry guards being trained to safeguard our forests.
Wondering why Former President Mahama would accuse the NPP of training thugs to cause mayhem in the 2020 elections, Mr. Owusu said “Why would Mr. Mahama make such blatant statement with no evidence? We started training the guards since 2017 and we have trained over 100 guards”
It can be recalled that Former president Mahama said he had evidence the that suggests that the NPP was training thugs at Asutuare to cause mayhem during the 2020 election.
Mr. Mahama said he prays the level of violence that marred the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election is not repeated on a nationwide scale.
However a rebuttal statement signed by NPP Communication Director Yaw Buaben Asamoa, the party said: “The NPP emphatically denies any knowledge or participation in any wild claim of ‘military training’ to disrupt the upcoming elections in 2020. Mahama misled the people when President and now misleading them with lies in opposition”.
