Vice President Dr Mahamud Bawumia and former President John Dramani Mahama have hailed the peaceful enskinment of new Yagbonwura and the peace and unity rooted in the Gonja Traditional Kingdom.

The duo made these comments at the outdooring of the new King of Gonja in Damongo in the Savannah Region on March 21.

The new monarch, Bikunuto Jewu Soale becomes the 34th Yagbonwura at Nyanget, the ancient capital of Gonja.

The former President speaking at the ceremony expressed his pride in being a Gonja and was happy that his tribesmen undertook the enskinment process peacefully.

He, therefore, appealed to the new overlord to continue the good works and tradition of Gonjas in Gonjaland. He also called on the government to support the development of the Gonja kingdom.

In his address, Vice President Dr. Bawumia thanked the people of the Gonja kingdom for letting peace prevail.

He noted that despite their political differences, they remain brothers from the North, and thus must live in peace for the development of northern Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia added that government will continue to support the palace of the king and the Gonja kingdom with development projects.

The Secretary to the overlord, Benkurowura Saaka Mahama from the Buipe traditional area, in an address delivered on behalf of the overlord Be-Kunuto-Jewu Soale noted that “I thank the Vice President and former President John Dramani Mahama for honouring the invitation for the outdooring of the new overlord.”

He added that Bikunuto Jewu Soale is ready to work hard for peace and development in the traditional area.

He also urged the government to support Gonjaland as well as help resolve the few chieftaincy disputes in the kingdom.
