Gov’t won’t rule out ‘National Shrine’ construction- Kofi Dzamesi
Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Samuel Kofi Ahiave Dzamesi, has said government is not ruling out the construction of a national shrine.
The sector minister says he is aware of concerns raised about getting a monumental place where Traditional African religion practitioners can have a sacred space for worship.
This concern comes after some Traditionalist have called for their fair share of the national cake in the form a traditional shrine.
Responding to a question posed at the Information Ministry’s Midweek Briefs on Wednesday, the minister said it is only fair the Traditionalists are not left out of the equation.
“Its true, since I took office as I said we have a national mosque and now we are in the process of building a national cathedral and the few times, some traditional groupings have also approached me and also asked for a traditional shrine.
“And since the constitution allows freedom of worship, we will study it very well and see how possible how that will spurn out, ” he added.
According to him, the government is “not ruling it out at all. ”
Reiterating the need for a national cathedral, the sector minister said the cathedral will serve as the country’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
