The management of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) has assured the members of the National Food Suppliers Association(NAFSA) that they are working to find a possible resolution to their plight.
The suppliers are currently picketing the premises of NAFCO to demand payment for food supplied to the company.
According to the suppliers, NAFCO owes them over two years of arrears and all attempts to recoup monies owed to them proved futile.
In a statement released by the company on Thursday, July 6, 2023, the management and board acknowledged its indebtedness to food suppliers.
“NAFCO acknowledges its indebtedness to its cherished suppliers. The company sympathizes with them in this unfortunate situation they find themselves in which has compelled them to picket at our head office premises. The company is equally concerned about their plight and appreciates their patience,” the statement said.
They assured that an emergency meeting has been scheduled by the board to find the best way to resolve the matter.
The food suppliers began picketing on Tuesday, July 5 at the NAFCO premises.
The suppliers who came from all across the country on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, to further press home their grievances have insisted that they will continue to picket the premises until their demands are met.
Meanwhile, the picketers have announced that two of their members have been taken ill due to rough weather conditions and the emotional trauma that members are going through during the picketing.
