We are committed to resolving GH¢3K verification fee increment – MoH assures aggrieved nurses
The Ministry of Health has assured nurses of resolving the issues relating to the increment of license verification fee by 445 percent.
According to the Public Relations Officer for the Health Ministry, Isaac Offei Baah, the ministry is engaging with the Nurse and Midwives Council (NMC) to address concerns raised by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association(GRNMA) regarding the recent surge in license verification fees.
The ongoing discussions with the Nurse and Midwives Council (NMC) are aimed at preventing any protest by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association.
Mr. Baah urged the nurses to rescind their decision to embark on any protest as the government actively works towards resolving the issue.
“We started the engagement on Thursday and we hope to conclude. They will have to exercise patience because their leadership is aware that a lot of negotiations are going on.”
It will be recalled that the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) earlier announced plans for protests, including a withdrawal of services from Out-Patient departments of health facilities nationwide, in response to the significant increase in license verification fees, which have risen from GH¢550 to GH¢3,000.
The Association also underscored the need for the government to introduce policies that will ensure that nurses and midwives in Ghana are given better conditions of service compared to their counterparts in other jurisdictions.
