WASSCE 2025: Staff face punishment for malpractice – Dr. Apaak

As the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) kicks off today, Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, has issued a stern reminder to all school staff to protect the integrity of the exams.

Speaking in a statement released on August 5, Dr. Apaak urged both teaching and non-teaching personnel to stay committed to fairness, adding that any staff member caught aiding or abetting cheating will face serious consequences. These could include dismissal from their role and potential prosecution.

“The integrity of our examinations is non-negotiable,” Dr. Apaak stated. “All staff must act with honesty and accountability throughout the exam period.”

To curb malpractice, the Ministry of Education is working closely with the Ghana Education Service (GES), the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), and national security agencies. Surveillance and monitoring have been intensified to catch any wrongdoing.

Dr. Apaak called on all school personnel to report suspicious behavior before, during, or after the exams. He also reminded educators that their role is to guide and support students, not to compromise their futures.

“Our schools must be places where values are nurtured. Those who break the rules will not be protected,” he said.

The Ministry also extended its best wishes to this year’s candidates. Dr. Apaak encouraged them to believe in their preparation and approach the exams with confidence and integrity.

“Stay focused, trust in your training, and remember that success earned honestly is success that lasts,” he added.
