WAPCo finally completes pipeline maintenance
The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has announced the successful completion of critical pipeline maintenance activities and the resumption of gas transportation to Ghana, Togo, and Benin.
WAPCo, in a statement released on February 28, 2025, reported that the maintenance project included offshore pipeline cleaning and inspection, subsea valve replacements, and other essential works across multiple locations in Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.
The statement added that the project was finished ahead of schedule, highlighting efficiency and safety throughout the process.
The four-week project involved a temporary shutdown of the pipelines supplying gas to Cotonou in Benin, Lomé in Togo, and Tema in Ghana.
WAPCo’s Managing Director, Michelle Burkett, expressed her appreciation for the team’s hard work and professionalism.
“I want to congratulate every member of our team for their dedication and professionalism. This was a complex project, and your hard work, even in the face of challenges, made it a success. While some countries experienced temporary disruptions due to the shutdown of the laterals, our teams worked tirelessly to ensure that maintenance was carried out swiftly and safely. The results speak for themselves, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved,” she said.
Burkett also extended her gratitude to the governments of Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, and Togo for their support, recognizing the contributions of maritime and regulatory authorities, customers, shippers, gas off-takers, host communities, shareholders, and other stakeholders.
WAPCo remains committed to providing safe and reliable gas transportation services in the sub-region, assuring its partners and customers of its dedication.
