The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will not intervene on behalf of persons arrested for disrupting their parliamentary primary in Walewale.
During the parliamentary primary re-run on Monday, September 9, 2024, the Electoral Commission (EC) declared the voting null and void after some persons damaged ballot papers and disrupted the exercise.
Addressing journalists, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the party fully supports the police action against the miscreants.
He added that the NPP is against violence and will not plead for freedom for the culprits.
“What I can say is that the party will give helpful support to the Ghana Police Service and anyone that will be established as the one being the cause of the chaos in the electoral process will be dealt with according to the laws of the country.
“The party will not come in to make any plead for such a person. The New Patriotic Party is not known for violence. The New Patriotic Party per our record shows clearly that we are a party that believes in the rule of law,” Mr Kodua Frimpong said.
He further pledged the party’s commitment to protecting its internal peace and stability.
Meanwhile, he said the National Executive Committee of NPP is expected to meet on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, to address the Walewale situation.
