Wagner Recruitment: Unemployment Makes African Youth Vulnerable – Prof Antwi-Danso
International Relations and Security Expert Professor Vladimir Antwi-Danso has disclosed that Africa is a fertile recruitment ground for the Russian state-funded private military company Wagner Group.
According to him, the group can take advantage of the youth to expand its operations in Africa due to the high unemployment rate on the continent.
The three young men were arrested at Diabene in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
The suspects have been identified as Evans, 25, Michael Asiedu, 23, and Ernest Asiedu, 26.
With the help of an alleged sponsor from Australia, the three boys mobilized about 20 youths to launch a military group on the Diabene community park.
However, the police arrested them following a tip-off.
Prof Antwi-Danso said there might be security implications if it is revealed that the Wagner Group was hiring youth from Ghana when these recruits return from their duties.
He, therefore, urged the security services to investigate to determine if the Wagner Group is actively recruiting from Ghana or funding specific activities within the country.
