WAFU B U17 Girls Cup: Black Maidens coach embraces high expectations

Black Maidens coach Joe Nana Adarkwa is embracing the high expectations surrounding his team as they prepare to host the WAFU Zone B U-17 Girls Cup.

Ghana’s Black Maidens will kick off their campaign against Benin on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

The team has been in intensive preparation for nearly two months, splitting their training sessions between Bibiani and Prampram. Coach Adarkwa expressed confidence in his team’s readiness, stating, “We have been in camp for about six weeks now, and so far, preparation is going well. We are ready for the tournament.”

While acknowledging the challenge of facing relatively unknown opponents, Coach Adarkwa said, “As of now, I do not know much about our opponents, but as the competition progresses, we will assess them. The technical team has prepared thoroughly, and we are ready for any match to secure all points at stake.”

Coach Adarkwa also addressed the pressure of being the host nation, saying, “There will definitely be pressure on us as hosts, and a lot of people will be expecting us to win.

”My girls are ready to play, and that’s the most important aspect of this tournament for me.”

The Black Maidens’ opening match is set to kick off at 15:00 GMT.
