WAEC publishes names of schools commercializing WASSCE registration process
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has published the names of some schools that have commercialized the registration process for the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).
The schools are, “Olistar Senior High/Technical School, Abesim; Gateway Senior High School, Sunyani; Lawrence Senior High School, Sunyani; First Class Senior High School, Achimota and Martin Luther Senior High School, Kintampo.”
According to the examination body, these schools have monetized the process by putting out calculated advertisements to entice prospective candidates with the promise of better grades.
A statement released by WAEC on Wednesday, March 15, says the schools charge between GHS1,200.00 to GHS6,750.00 per candidate.
Meanwhile, WAEC revealed that the registration for entry in 7 or 8 subjects is GHS381.24.
“This figure is exclusive of the fees for practical or oral tests which range between GHS14.50 and GHS19.50 per practical test.”
They also reminded the public of the sanctions associated with the registration of non-school/unqualified candidates for school candidates’ examinations and the fabrication of continuous assessment scores for candidates.
The sanctions are “De-recognition of the affected school for not less than 1 year, a report made to the Ministry of Education or the appropriate WAEC Board for disciplinary action against the responsible person(s), and withholding of the entire results of the non-school/unqualified candidate, pending the outcome of an investigation by the appropriate Committee of the Council.”
This comes after WAEC announced the opening of the portal for the registration of candidates for the WASSCE 2023.
The portal which was opened on Wednesday, 15 March 2023, for school candidates, will close on Wednesday, 19 April 2023.
The examinations will, however, take place from Monday, July 31, 2023, to Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
