Vybz Kartel to host first concert in December after being released from prison
Dancehall icon Vybz Kartel has announced plans to host his first music concert in December 2024.
The concert would be a major milestone and comeback in the artist’s career, following his release from incarceration for 13 years.
Vybz Kartel, while speaking in a podcast shared on Instagram by Marigyata, said he has heard the cries of his many fans for a comeback concert from him, and preparations are underway to fulfil that wish.
According to him, fine details about the concert will be made public in the coming days.
The entertainer walked free from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in downtown Kingston on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, after the Court of Appeal ruled against retrying him and his co-accused for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
In 2014, Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer; Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell; Kahira Jones; and Andre St John were convicted of the September 2011 murder of Williams.
Lawyers representing the quartet had appealed to the local Court of Appeal in 2020, but their convictions were upheld.
The accused’s appeal was then taken to the United Kingdom-based Privy Council, and on March 14, 2024, their murder convictions were overturned on the grounds of juror misconduct.
The Privy Council also remitted the case back to the Jamaica Court of Appeal to decide whether there should be a retrial.
