Voter registration fraud: Two Togolese arrested in Buem constituency
Two Togolese Nationals have been arrested in the Buem constituency in the Jasikan district of the Oti region, for voter registration fraud.
They were apprehended by police on Sunday, May 19, 2024, around 4 pm.
The arrests followed allegations that the suspects were brought into Ghana by executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
According to reports, the individuals were part of a larger group intended to illegally register as voters.
Upon the arrival of security personnel, the rest of the group reportedly fled the scene, leaving the two suspects behind.
They are currently in police custody at the Jasikan Divisional Police Command, aiding with investigations
The incident has raised significant concerns about the integrity of the voter registration process.
The police are closely monitoring the situation, as accusations have surfaced suggesting that NDC executives are exploiting the guarantor system to fraudulently register foreign nationals.
