Voter Registration: Error in registration slip does not affect eligibility – EC
The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the public that mistakes made on the registration slip in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise will not affect the eligibility of voters .
This follows the circulation of a viral image in which a registration slip indicates that the bearer registered at Kasoa in the Central Region, yet the District is captured as Ayawaso North in the Greater Accra Region.
In a press release signed by acting Directoor of Public Affairs, Michael Boadu, the EC said the error does not appear on the applicant’s voter’s ID card.
“This error does not appear on the Applicant’s Voter’s ID Card. It reflects on the Registration Slip which only serves as a reference, should an Applicant seek to replace his/her ID Card. The error does not affect the eligibility of the voter.
“We entreat citizens to remain steadfast and repose their confidence and trust in the commission to deliver on its mandate,” the EC said.
Meanwhile, the commission has added that all errors will be corrected during the Voters Exhibition Exercise.
The EC said these errors were usual, hence, the commission often displays registers to rectify such errors.
As such, the commission will open the register for such mistakes to be corrected from Monday, July 15, to July 24, 2024.
“From Monday 15th July to Wednesday 24th July 2024, voters will have the opportunity to review and correct any errors with their registration details.”
