The Electoral Commission (EC) has informed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it will re-exhibit the corrected Provisional Voter Register (PVR) online before the final version is printed.
This comes after the NDC staged a nationwide protest against the EC for refusing to conduct a forensic audit of the voter register for the 2024 elections.
The party’s leadership had raised concerns over discrepancies in the 2024 voter register.
Their demands included a bi-partisan forensic audit of the voter register and immediate publication of the forensic findings.
The rest were the re-exhibition of the voter register, a 5-day re-exhibition period following the audit, the correction of unauthorised vote transfers, and the adoption of a definitive timetable for electoral activities.
In response, the EC said it is not opposed to a physical exhibition at all 40,000+ centres but cited time constraints.
In a statement, the EC said it would take approximately four weeks to print and distribute the corrected register.
This timeline, it said, is not feasible as the election date is fast approaching.
“The Commission intends to implement an Online Exhibition of the PVR at no cost to Registered Voters. Voters will be able to report on anomalies with their details within a time frame to be made available to the Public. The Voters Register will be displayed online until the Election Day,” the statement said.
Once again, the EC dismissed calls by the NDC for a forensic audit of the Provisional Voters Register (PVR).
“The Commission is of the view that the legal and administrative processes laid down to clean the PVR have not been fully exhausted to justify the calls for a Forensic Audit. We entreat the public to trust us to carry out our mandate.”
