The Managing Director of Vivo Energy Ghana, Ben Hassan Ouattara has joined calls for government to prosecute Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) found culpable of defrauding consumers at the pumps.
Ben Hassan Ouattara said, culprits should be punished severely to serve as deterrence.
“This is not acceptable and it’s been clearly said within the company because to me this is zero tolerance so we should all be very strict in the operations and also make sure that standards are applied appropriately,” he said.
Mr Ouattara has also urged customers to demand value for money at the pumps.
“You should confirm that the quantity that is being served to you is the right quantity,” he added.
The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) uncovered massive corruption at some fuel stations in the Greater Accra region in its latest periodic checks where some major OMCs were indicted for tampering with their pumps.
A report by Authority revealed that some 10 out of 65 fuel stations visited adjusted their pumps to serve their customers less.
The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), for instance, urged the owners or operators of such filling stations to immediately close down.
