The Minister of Communication, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has ordered the closure of the Dansoman Zodiac branch of telecommunication giant, MTN, for flouting COVID-19 regulations.
The Minister said she was on her way to her office on Tuesday when she stumbled upon a group of clients in front of the office of the telco.
“They have been shut down and will not be allowed to operate until they have better arrangements in place. Reputable corporate organisations like this should not be flouting the law and creating conditions for the virus to spread,” the minister posted on her Facebook Page, along with the video of the scene.
About 30 customers had gathered, some without face masks. While some sat, others stood, waiting for their turn to access the service with the space between them less than a metre, in breach of social distancing protocols.
The minister did not hesitate to scold the people gathered and criticised the management of MTN for disregarding recommended procedure for companies operating in the wake of the COVID-19.
“We at Ablekuma West started with just two cases, but we now have 79. It is not a joke, by the time you leave here, you may have contracted the disease,” the livid MP chastised the customers who had haggled under a canopy.
“Is your life less important than what you came to do at the MTN office,” she asked. “If you leave a go home you would have infected everyone else in your house”.
As at Tuesday, May 5, Ghana had recorded 2, 719 cases. A total of 294 had recovered with 18 deaths.
This is not the first time a shop is being closed for failing to observe social distance protocols.

Good job Ursula. Hope all in similar positions would follow your example.

Thumbs up, but she should do something about the floating bridge.
The same people who are flouting the directives and can be a tool for spread if disease will blame the government for doing enough. Even you go out and can see food vendors with no masks
Madam Ursula you deserve public acclaim for taking such bold steps. God bless you.
