Video: Students Loan Trust Fund to publish next batch of debtors Monday
The Students Loan Trust Fund will on Monday publish the next batch of its debtors.
The Trust is chasing more than 3,000 people who are yet to make a single payment on funds they received since 2006.
Recovery Manager of the Trust Fund Justice Wiafe Sarkodie revealed this to The Ghana Report following the publication of the names and photos of 20 defaulters on Thursday.
“After yesterday’s publication, we also sent text messages to all our borrowers directing them to our publication.
“We had a lot of people calling to ask of their balance, asking for negotiations and payment plan. Yesterday the phone lines were very busy,”
“At the beginning of the year, we had 10,000 of such debtors who have exhausted their repayment period and have not paid anything, “the Recovery Manager of the Fund said.
Mr Sarkodie also revealed that at least one person from the list it has published was dead but was quick to add that the guarantors of deceased person would be allowed to make claims for the insured loan to be paid to the trust.
“Subsequently, we will take legal action against them if we don’t hear from them from now till the end of the year,“ he said.
The publication of the first batch is just one of more than 3,000 names the Fund will be releasing in the coming days.
The 3,000 defaulters who are not paid a dime are among more than 55,000 people who collected loans from the Trust Fund to cushion them while in school but are yet to pay back fully.
