A young man has been brutalised by two police officers from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) who suspected the culprit was carrying a bag containing marijuana.

This incident happened at Asankrangwa in the Western North Region on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at about 11 am.

In a viral video on most social media platforms, the two police officers attempted to take a bag from the suspect, who resisted forcefully.

He was dragged to the floor and subjected to beatings by the two cops. They punched the suspect and hit him several times as he pleaded innocence.

At a point, he was pinned to the ground, and the police kicked and stamped him as they tried to subdue him.

The suspect could be heard saying the bag did not belong to him.

Eyewitnesses narrated that the suspect was on board a tricycle popularly known as Pragya, which was stopped by the police officers on duty at Asankrangwa Newtown, between Asankrangwa and Asankran-Odumasi.

The Asankrangwa Divisional Police Command MTTD personnel enquired about the owner of a bag.

Others believed the bag containing the marijuana belonged to the suspect.

Some inhabitants of the town, who trooped to the scene, also blamed the suspect for not pleading guilty rather than challenging the police officers.

The Pragya rider, including other passengers on board, was later freed by the police officers.
