(VIDEO) Car runs over 5 killing police woman at Abrepo Junction
A female community police assistant has died after a car ran over her and four others at the Abrepo Junction traffic light in Kumasi.
The deceased, only identified as Tina was directing traffic with another police officer due to the malfunctioning traffic lights at Abrepo junction.
According to eyewitnesses, the private car with registration number GS 9494-21 experienced a brake failure causing it to lose control and run into them and the other victims.
In a CCTV footage of the harrowing incident, the deceased could be seen thrown in the air as the speeding vehicle plowed into her.
“The officer was the first to be struck. She got trapped under a bus but was declared dead after a rescue mission,” an eyewitness narrated.

The other victims who sustained various degrees of injury included a medicine seller who is currently in critical condition.
Meanwhile, authorities have seized the car and the driver was detained for questioning as part of the investigative process.

In January 2024, a taxi driver, Kofi Donkor, was arrested for running over a police officer on duty at Agona Swedru in the Central region.
The incident happened at the Agona Swedru Chief Palace junction when the officer, Constable Ernest Opare, directed traffic on the busy dual carriage road.
A police source said the driver with vehicle registration number GW 6086-22 was driving on the shoulders of the road.
The impatient driver, who was speeding, reportedly ran over the police officer who sustained serious injuries to his back and hands.
He was rushed to the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital for treatment.
