Video: Angelique Kidjo dedicates Grammy Award to fellow nominee Burna Boy
Angelique Kidjo made Africa proud over the weekend with her 4th win at the Grammys.
Her album ‘Celia’ was announced as the winner for the Best World Music Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards.
In her acceptance speech after winning the Grammy, the singer dedicated the award to Burna Boy.
“Four years ago, on the stage, I was telling you that the new generation of artistes coming from Africa are going to take you by storm. And the time has come. This is for Burna Boy. Burna Boy is among those young musicians that come from Africa that is changing the way that our continent is perceived and the way that African music has been the bedrock of every music,” she said.
Burna Boy and Angelique Kidjo worked together on his “Different” song on his “African Giant” album which has received great reviews.
Other nominees in that category were Burna Boy – African Giant’, Altin Gün – Gece, Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted By Jules Buckley – What Heat, Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet – Fanm D’ayiti .
