VGMA 21: The winners and losers as Kuami Eugene is crowned ‘King’

 

It was more than just a golden hour for highlife musician, Kuami Eugene, on Saturday at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards night as he won the prized Artiste of the Year.

The silky voice songster also crowned an exciting night of music with highlife artiste of the year award.

It is the third time in a row that the ‘Open Gate’ hitmaker grabbed the highlife artiste of the year award.

On his night of glory, Kuami faced stiff competition from Sarkodie, Diana Hamilton, Medikal and Kofi Kinaata for the most desired prize of the night.

He takes over from Ebony Reigns who won the top award in 2018. There was no award in 2019 because of the scuffle between dance hall artistes -Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, one of whom was pencilled for the ultimate prize.

The decorated Lynx Entertainment star has been releasing back-to-back bangers since 2016.

He won the New Artist awards in 2018 from the Ghana Music Awards and the Ghana Music Awards UK. He also received the Most Promising Artiste in Africa award from (AFRIMA. In 2019, he received seven nominations at the Ghana Music Awards and went on to win the awards for Album of the Year, Producer of the Year and Highlife Artiste of the Year.
