The General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in gimmicks aimed at distracting President Akufo-Addo from fully delivering on the mandate given him by the Ghanaian people.

According to John Boadu, the NDC in their bid to win power in 2020 continue to propagate falsehood and untruths to the Ghanaian people.

Addressing the press at a media briefing in Accra on Wednesday, John Boadu said the Akufo-Addo-led government, unlike the erstwhile Mahama administration, has shown enough commitment in the fight against corruption.

“Under Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration there has been the passage of two pieces of legislation with stiff sentences in two areas of our national discipline; political vigilantism and illegal small-scale mining…. we challenge the NDC to come out with their policy position about the future of galamsey following the passage of the legislation by the NPP government” he said.

According to him, the president’s position on making sure state institutions mandated to handle corruption cases continue to do so remains a true reflection of the respect for rule and law.

“Again, the President has spoken, he has spoken loudly and clearly on corruption and its elimination…his commitment is to the rule of law as the only legitimate and viable means of conquering systematic corruption in this country….no amount of  short term mass lingering and exaggerated claims of corruption being leveled at every incidence of mishap in government can sway his resolve to be impartial” he said.

Mr. Boadu says the fight against corruption is not done by engaging in verbal arguments and shouting but by institutionalizing policies and laws to prevent it.
