USA vs. Ghana: Black Stars new boy Jerome Opoku gets his first start

The head coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton has handed a first starting role to new defender Jerome Opoku.

The young defender earned his debut Black Stars call-up for the October international break after excelling in Turkey where he plays his football.

Last Saturday, Jerome Opoku was part of the Ghana squad that lost 2-0 to Mexico.

Although he missed out on a starting role in that game, the defender came on later and had a feel of what playing for the Black Stars feels like.

Today, Jerome Opoku has been handed his first start for Ghana and will have to prove to coach Chris Hughton and Ghanaians.

He is partnering with Nicholas Opoku at the heart of the Ghana defense while Alidu Seidu and Gideon Mensah play as the full-backs.

Meanwhile, Goalkeeper Abdul Manaf Nurudeen has replaced Richard Ofori in the post while striker Inaki Williams has been tasked to lead the leads.

Other stars including Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew, and Mohammed Kudus are also starting for Ghana.
