US ‘borga’ gunned down by suspected robbers in Kumasi

A 59-year-old Ghanaian businessman based in the United States was allegedly shot dead by suspected armed robbers at Aboabogya, Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region on December 10.

According to reports, the victim, Eric Acheampong, arrived in the country about three weeks ago in preparation for his retirement.

The armed men, about five, were said to have robbed a fuel station that evening, snatching an undisclosed amount of money and some valuable items.

In their attempt to flee the scene, they accosted Eric Acheampong, who was driving by in a Toyota Highlander with one person in the passenger seat.

They reportedly fired at Mr Acheampong, hitting him in the head and killing him instantly. They allegedly took one of his mobile phones but spared his female passenger.

The robbers had earlier tried to attack a Kia truck, but the driver fortunately got away amidst gunshots.

Meanwhile, the police are yet to comment on the attack.

It adds to the number of robberies within the week.

On the same day, another group of robbers targeted a passenger vehicle travelling along the Yendi-Tamale road, killing the driver.

The incident took place between Puriya and DC Kuraa in the Northern region.

Further details revealed that three passengers also sustained various degrees of injury during the attack.
