A US-based Ghanaian photographer, Ismael Amuzu-Quaidoo, has been found dead in the Chicago River.
35-year-old Ishmael had been living in Chicago from 2020 until his death.
According to a GoFundMe account created to raise funds for his family to transport his body home, he went missing on July 31, 2024.
Days later, authorities found him unresponsive in the river and he was declared dead on the scene.
The events leading to his death are still unclear.
Meanwhile, the Chicago police are actively investigating the matter, pending autopsy results from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
“On the 31st July, Ishmael Amuzu-Quaidoo, affectionately known as Kobby, was reported missing in the River North/Chicago Loop area. On the 3rd August at 8 am, He was tragically found unresponsive in the Chicago River close to Adams Street Bridge. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear and as such his family, who are based in Ghana, have been left both crippled with grief and confused as to how this could have happened. Investigations are still ongoing,” it said.
This comes after a 22-year-old US-based Ghanaian was found dead after he went missing for 10 days.
Darius Appiah’s lifeless body was found by a search party on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at a creek in Frederiksberg, Virginia.
Darius was last seen on Wednesday, January 23, 2024, when he left work at 2:22 pm after ordering a meal for pickup.
According to an official complaint filed with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, his phone was turned off about an hour later, making it difficult to locate him.
In the bid to find Darius, his parents, in a plea shared on social media, called on intercessors to join them in prayer for the safe return of their son.
