Unidentified men demolish MCE’s building in Keta over land dispute
A group of unidentified men stormed the Keta reclaimed land area on Sunday morning, December 29, 2024, and partly demolished the private storey building of the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Emmanuel Gemegah.
The men, who were armed and accompanied by two bulldozers, also destroyed a fence wall belonging to one Rocky Amugi.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. near the Emancipation Beach at Adzido-Aflasco.
Police intervention was required to stop the men from further demolishing the building.
This incident is the latest development in a long-standing dispute over the management of the Keta reclaimed land.
The youth in the area have been protesting against the alleged illegal allocation of land meant for a stadium to private developers, including the MCE.
In October 2024, the youth attacked the MCE’s building and wrote “Stop Work” on it, claiming that the matter was before the High Court at Sogakope.
However, the developers have ignored the warnings and continued with their work.
