Unemployed graduate nurses, midwives threaten demo over posting delays

The Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association has announced its intention to hold a protest regarding what it characterises as the government’s extended delay in assigning its members, some of whom have been at home for as long as five years.

A demonstration that was scheduled for this week was cancelled after the association could not finalise security arrangements with the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.

Frustration among the graduates is escalating.

Speaking in an interview, Gamal Osman, who completed his training in 2021, expressed that the prolonged wait has left many individuals struggling to manage.

“I have been in the house for four years. I completed school in 2021. We are all stranded. Remember, completing school and depending on someone is not easy. How to even buy water is not easy,” he stated in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Citi News.

The association indicated that it will persist in exploring all lawful options to demand the posting of its members until the government takes action.
