Under 20 AFCON: Cote D’Ivoire withdraws as host of competition
Reports gathered indicate that the host of the CAF Under 20 AFCON, Cote D’Ivoire, has withdrawn from hosting the tournament.
The development comes exactly a month from the scheduled competition period from April 26 to May 18 in the West African nation.
As such, the search for a new host is underway with 13 nations set to compete in the biannual tournament; Senegal is the defending champion of the competition.
Morocco has emerged as a host nation. The North African nation is set to host the CAF AFCON Under 17 from March 30 to April 19. Morocco will also host the Women’s AFCON later this year from July 5 to July 26.
Ghana is among the 13 nations that have qualified to compete in next month’s tournament. The Black Satellites have been drawn into Group A alongside DR Congo, Tanzania, Cote D’Ivoire, and the Central African Republic (C.A.R.).
Ghana is the only African country to win the Under 20 World Cup after lifting the title in 2009 when the competition was held in Egypt.

The Black Satellites recently won gold at the 2023 African Games.
