Ukraine To Establish Embassy In Ghana

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Mr.Dmytro Kuleba, in a diplomatic visit to Ghana, has disclosed that Ukraine would build an embassy in Ghana to extend its presence in Africa.

According to the Foreign Affairs Minister, establishing the embassy will help strengthen the relationship between European and African countries.

In discussion with Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, in Accra, Mr. Kuleba acknowledged the continuous support of Ghana’s government towards the success of the United Nations (UN).

The diplomatic visit became necessary as it was part of Ukraine’s Minister of  Foreign Affairs’ first-ever tour to African countries.

In a publication posted on Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, Mr. Kuleba” informed his Ghanaian colleague in detail about his country’s efforts to liberate Ukrainian territories from Russian occupation.”

Mr. Kuleba again thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his substantive suggestions at the UN for bringing peace and unity between Ukraine and Russia’s government.

The minister highlighted the intense desire of Ukraine to partner with Ghana to bring development based on “mutual respect, mutual support, and mutual benefit”.

“As part of the implementation of the African strategy, which was developed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the instructions of President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine is expanding its presence in Africa. We reached an agreement with the Ghanaian side: we plan to open a Ukrainian embassy in Ghana in the near future. The establishment of a diplomatic presence in Accra will give an impetus to the development of political contacts, trade, investments, cultural exchanges, and cooperation in the field of education,” Mr. Kuleba indicated.

The two ministers discussed “the steps to intensify cooperation between Ukraine and Ghana in the spheres of security, cyber security, digital transformation, and agriculture”.

In a nutshell, the two countries agreed to start preparations for establishing the Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which will help bring development in both countries.

Concerning how Ghanaian medical students are stranded in Ukraine, there was a discussion on how the educational system can be improved for students to return to lecture halls to have the peace of mind to study.

At the closure of the discourse, the two Ministers signed a memorandum of understanding on the training of Ghanaian diplomats based on the Diplomatic Academy named after Hennadiy Udovenko at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Madam Ayorkor Botchway expressed her gratitude for the diplomatic visit of Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Minister to Ghana and assured him of Ghana’s readiness to support his good intentions for the good people of Ghana. She added that as the two become one, both should open internship opportunities for citizens to drive unity among both countries.
