A devastating double tragedy has struck the Ghanaian community in Manchester, UK, as a Baptist Church leader succumbed to knife injuries a few days after his wife was murdered in cold blood.
The community was hopeful that Pastor Joshua Obinim, 64, would survive the attack but gave up the ghost at a hospital where he was receiving treatment.
A 22-year-old son of Pastor Joshua stabbed the couple in a fit of homicidal rage.
The brutal attack claimed the life of Pastor Obinim’s wife, Angela, 43, and also left their 17-year-old daughter fighting for her life.
The incident happened at around 11.20 pm on Sunday in Barnard Road, Gorton, in the United Kingdom, Greater Manchester Police said.
“The community is in shock and mourning the loss of Pastor Obinim. He was a beloved figure and a pillar of our community. His passing leaves a huge void,” said a Ghanaian leader in Manchester.
Pastor Obinim and his daughter were rushed to the hospital in critical condition after the attack, but tragically, he did not survive.
“We are heartbroken to announce that Pastor Obinim passed away in the hospital on Tuesday morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the surviving daughter and the entire family,” said another community leader.
The 17-year-old daughter remains in hospital, fighting for her life.
The perpetrator of the attack has been arrested and faces a lengthy prison sentence for his heinous crimes.
“This senseless act of violence has left our community reeling,” said a family friend.
“We urge everyone to come together and support the family during this difficult time.”
The Ghanaian community in Manchester is planning a vigil and memorial service to honour the memory of Pastor Obinim and his wife, Angela.
