Uganda ‘mistakenly’ sends $580,000 to Embassy in China to support students in Wuhan
Uganda’s Finance Ministry has directed the Uganda Embassy in China to return the excess money of $538,200 transferred erroneously to support students in Wuhan, China, in the outbreak of coronavirus.
The directive comes after the Ministry realised it had sent 10 times more than the agreed amount it intended to send.
“The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to direct you to return the excess $538,200 to the contingencies Fund,” as stated in the letter available to theghanareport.com.
Secretary to the Treasury, Keith Muhakanizi, in the said letter to Uganda’s Embassy in Beijing said that it had noted the discrepancy between the amounts.
The Ugandan cabinet explained that “it had approved $61,800 (£47,700) to be sent to China for students in Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, not $600,000.”
