UG graduates over 1,900 students, urges them to lead with integrity

The University of Ghana has conferred degrees on more than 1,900 students across various disciplines, calling on the fresh graduates to become agents of innovation, ethical leadership, and national development.

The Congregation Ceremony, held in four sessions from July 25 to 26, saw the awarding of PhD, Master’s, and undergraduate degrees.

The event brought together university leadership, faculty, students, and invited guests to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2025.

Speaking at the final session on Saturday, July 26, Chairperson of the University’s Governing Council, Marrietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, reminded graduates that their degrees are not merely academic milestones but tools to address real-world challenges.

“You must rise above the classroom and become part of the solution to Ghana’s and Africa’s pressing issues,” she said. “Use what you’ve learned not only for personal success, but for the collective good through innovation, collaboration, and bridging the gap between academia and industry.”

Delivering the keynote address to graduates from the School of Law, Pan-Africanist and CEO of CarePoint, Dr. Sangu Delle, echoed a similar call.

He emphasized the need for morally grounded leadership across the continent.

“What Africa needs today isn’t just educated men and women, it needs ethical leaders. Those who lead with honour, purpose, and a deep commitment to building a nation that serves all, not just a few,” he said.

Throughout the two-day ceremony, speakers reinforced the idea that education is a powerful tool not only for individual advancement but for transforming communities and driving progress across Africa.
