A one-year-old girl and her one-month-old brother have died in a building collapse at Gomoa Osamkrom in the Gomoa Central District of the Central Region.

The unfortunate incident happened on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

Their mother, Sophia Arthur, stepped out to bathe after feeding them.

Sophia said she heard a terrifying sound and rushed out of the bathhouse only to find the entire building on the ground.

Some residents came around to help the family remove the blocks to rescue the kids from the rubble, but they were already dead.

Their bodies have been deposited at the Agona Sweden Government Hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the collapse.

This comes after a structure at the Tema Community 22 Starlight Market, near the local mosque in the Greater Accra region, collapsed in the early hours of Saturday, June 15.

The incident tragically resulted in one individual being trapped beneath the debris.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded promptly to the emergency.

Also, four persons, including a 6-month-old baby, sustained injuries after the wall of a cemetery collapsed on them at Kasoa Zongo in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

The incident happened on Monday, May 6, 2024, after the heavy rains in the morning.

The victims were taking shelter under a shade at the market centre near the cemetery when the weak wall collapsed, injuring them in the process.
