Two thieves narrowly escaped lynching at Senya Bereku in the Awutu Senya West district of the Central Region.
Information gathered indicates that about six schools had gathered at Awutu Bereku for an inter-school competition.
In the course of the competition, some students were constantly being robbed of their phones and valuables along one of the bushy stretches leading to the competition grounds.
Reports have it that about six town boys laid an ambush on unsuspecting students, robbing them of their phones and other valuables.
The victims of these incidents then reported the circumstances to their friends.
Subsequently, the students came up with a plan to recover all their stolen items by using one of the female students as bait.
When the female student got to the spot where the town boys usually attacked the students, as usual, she was attacked with machetes and other weapons and was asked to surrender all her valuables.
Immediately, the other students who orchestrated the plan pounced on these thieves, beating them to a pulp.
The incident attracted the attention of some teachers, who immediately called on the Awutu Senya police commander, who also deployed officers to the scene.
Unfortunately, four of the thieves fled the scene before the police arrived.
The police recovered eleven phones from the two thieves who were unable to escape and called on the students to report to the station to identify their phones and collect them.
The two thieves are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
