Two teenage girls found dead after visiting boyfriends
Two lifeless bodies have been found along the Okrakwadwo stretch of the Koforidua-Adukrom Highway in the Eastern Region.
The bodies were identified as two teenage girls, Yvonne Ansah and Esther Oye, who allegedly visited their boyfriends.
The deceased Junior High School (JHS) students in Okrakwadwo in the Okere District left home on Monday, 29 August 2022, to visit their boyfriends at Mile 14.
The girls were seen lying at the roadside with severe head injuries.
Esther was pronounced dead on arrival at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital at Akuapem Mampong, whilst Yvonne was pronounced dead shortly after being admitted to the Eastern Regional Hospital.
Residents speculated that their attackers killed them at daybreak before abandoning them by the roadside.
“There were no marks of injuries on their bodies to suggest that they jumped out of a moving vehicle. Besides that, they were placed beside each other, so we suspect they were killed and dumped,” The assembly member for the area, Michael Gadasu, who confirmed the incident, told Starr News.
However, Ofei James, spokesperson for the family of Yvonne Ansah, said the family suspects foul play based on circumstances that led to the death.
According to him, the supposed boyfriend of Yvonne sent her a text message at 11:06 pm questioning why she failed to inform her she was coming to visit him.
The text message on the phone of the deceased girl retrieved at the crime scene but in possession of the family reads, “But u, what’s wrong with u, did u tell me u’re coming here”.
He further alleged that her boyfriend, now at large, allegedly called a lady in the community a few minutes later to inform her that Yvonne and her friend had been involved in an accident.
The lady in question has since run away from the Okrakwadwo community.
Samuel Obiri, an uncle to the late Esther Oye, insists the family will reject any cause of death relating to the lorry accident.
He said the family equally suspects foul play.
The bodies have been sent to the morgue by the Adukrom District Police command as the investigation proceeds.
