Two kids drown in abandoned galamsey pit at Atwima Mponua

Two children have lost their lives after they drowned in an abandoned illegal mining pit at Kotokuom in the Atwima Mponua District in the Ashanti Region.

It is reported that the boys, three in all, had gone to their farm near a galamsey pit on Sunday, June 25, 2023, when one of them, unfortunately, fell in the pit.

The two aged 4, and 6 in an attempt to rescue their friend fell deep in the pit and got drowned.

Narrating the sad incident in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Akoma FM, an eyewitness Nicholas Osei said “These three kids went to the area to check on their crop farm”.

“They have planted some crops in the area and they normally go and water them.”

He added, one was rescued but two died in the pit full of water.

The bodies of the deceased however have been deposited at Nhyinahini Government Hospital for autopsy and preservation. The other one who was rescued is also at the same facility receiving treatment.
