Two injured as unidentified men open fire at Awutu Senya East

At least two people have been confirmed injured in a shoot out at a polling station in the Central Region.

The incident occurred when unknown gunmen allegedly opened fire on a KIA soul saloon car.

At least four bullets were fired at the vehicle with registration number  GW 2375 -20 near Steps to Christ polling station in the Awutu Senya East constituency.

According to the driver of the vehicle, they were agents of the opposition National Democratic Congress who were visiting the centre to observe the process.

“We don’t know what happened that they opened fire at us, we were just coming here to drop our party agents to observe the process,” he told Citi TV monitored by theghanareport.com.

An eyewitness said the gunmen occupied a black V8.

“They shot at the salon car and fled away,” he said

The police and military have since visited the scene to restore calm as the incident distracted the voting process briefly.

One injured person has been rushed to the hospital.

The Central Region Police PRO, Irene Oppong, confirmed the incident to theghanarepoprt.com.

But she, however, said she did not have the details.

The Steps to Christ polling center became popular during the voter registration center when the sitting member of parliament and Minister for Special Development, Mavis Hawa  Koomson opened fire.

“It was my gun. I fired my own warning shot,” she told a journalist.

According to her, the gunshot was in self-defence.
